Unique moments with LSG and IAR

Entry for Simon says stamp vintage challenge "No rules"!

For the most of it I make cards and albums (I go for mini albums, but they never get so mini - LOL!). But I've ohhed and ahhed over all these altered pieces that you talented people make and I've felt so inspired but having nothing to alter... How can that be, you ask. Perhaps it's an issue of space, as I don't have a lot of it, where would I store them?
Anyhow, the perfect moment has arrived. My mother made up a song for me as a kid and I've forgotten all about it, until she called me and told that she also forgotten about it 'til recently for some reason. So she now kept the lyrics on the refrigerator literally in bits and pieces, as she had it coming back to her. I therefore had the opportunity to make this frame, where I've printed the text for her - still to keep in the kitchen:)

The frame is made from a simple card stock 12x12. As I wanted it as light as a feather, I didn't add any chipboard, but hid several magnets beneath the printed text and the inside of the cardstock. The frame is 1cm deep and 2cm thick. I printed the text on some sturdy white paper and coloured it with distress ink vintage photo, LSG van dyke sepia and dark chocolate tryffle. I also dabbed some LSG burnished brass here and there. Furthermore, I continued to spray the paper frame with the same LSGs.

I'm not sure if it will show, the pics are really poor quality - sorry! But I put some tissue paper on all sides of the frame, in various amount, which I distressed with some vintage photo to make it melt into the frame. I also tried some corset binding on the left side of the frame. I'm really pleased with how that came out, so much better then I first imagined. The ribbon is actually bright yellow, but I added some LSG van dyke sepia and water to "age" it - loved the effect, i use this technic all the time now a days.

The flowers I used are all from

All the flowers were sprayed with LSG a bit o' bubbly - my all time favorite. I just love its subtle shimmer! The brown spray also got a hint of burnished brass as the frame. The rose leaf is coloured with LSG envy me green. I tucked the yellow spray in the corset and cut apart the brown one, most of it is in the down right corner and one flower is on the left side if you can spot if right above the butterfly charm.

Other embellishments I used are clear wheat leaves, TH muse tokens, a garment pin and a butterfly charm in tibetan silver. Also, what project is complete without prima pearls?

I also wanted to add some butterflies from Spellbinders fanciful flight, I glued two pieces of scraps from the sturdy paper I'd printed the lyric on. But add on the LSG dark chocolate tryffle, to add a contrasting shimmer I also sprayed some LSG cadbury chocolate. After I die cut the butterfly I also added some grab me guy gold instead of embossing it. Then I covered the entire thing in distress paint candy rock, as it dried it curled just perfectly and the crackle adds a fragile look to it, but oh so shimmery. I don't believe the photo is making it justice.

I know I keep saying that each project was superfun to make, but isn't that the reason why we're all doing this. It's so much fun seeing our projects take form and I can't tell how much this gift was appreciated. But again, isn't that part of why we are doing this.

Thank you all for being such an inspiration and support!

  1. Your frame is absolutely beautiful. It's hard to believe that it's made from cardstock! I love how you've finished out your frame: all the elements you've used and how beautifully you've arranged everything. Your lacy butterfly is a beautiful die cut! I also really love all of your sweet little yellow roses and bling. They really pop against the brown tones of your piece. What a beautiful way to display the lyrics of a song that mean so much to you and your mother! Thanks for sharing your art with us at Simon Says Stamp and Show. <3 Candy
